Startup idea: Oyo for Retail
"If data is the new oil, remember that oil is useless goop untill it's refined into petroleum" - recent tweet. Unusable/unclean data is a problem that plagues several large organizations. That combined with siloed departmental thinking leads to disappointing results, compared to the promise of big data analytics and AI. Large Indian ecommerce players seem to be stuck in this zone, as highlighted in this article. One company that has surpassed this is Alibaba, as it is now even providing 'unmet needs' data to companies like Mars which came out with a spicy Snickers bar in China based on this insight.
