Parents spend a lot of time thinking about how to help with math or science, reading or soccer, but perhaps they should also devote attention to thinking about the science of practice. As kids pick their passions, and hone their own practice routines, parents can borrow from K Anders Ericsson's work to help their children learn to set and track goals, be aware of the quality of their coaching, and consider specific improvements to practice instead of just adding more hours on the court, in the pool, or with the flashcards. Less is more if practice is intentionally designed, which is not often the case. More here
