Blog Sree Vijaykumar | From the Editor's Desk Prime Minister Modi and his media advisors made a big tactical error by not addressing the Dadri lynching case in time. Yes, it should not have happened in the first place, but purely from a communication perspective, the PM and his team had a chance to react better. What seemed like just another killing was not. Someone getting killed for eating something that many of us eat, strikes a chord similar to a plane crash. It could have been me, or someone I know. This is not news that would have just passed; the media would pick it up, and it did. A quick statement from the prime minister, strongly condemning the incident, would have prevented it from becoming the media circus that it ultimately became. Note how Obama's tweet about the Muslim boy arrested in a Texas school for building a harmless clock helped quell the issue there. | PoliticsIts growth agenda hit, why the BJP must mark a clear distance from the fringeThe BJP needs to clear that misconception quickly. However, so far it appears a bit confused as to how to go about it. Warnings off and on have not worked. What makes matters worse for it is junior ministers and parliamentarians have been offering direct or indirect moral support to the fringe groups by their utterances. Even party spokespersons are seen to be siding with organisations like Sanatan Sanstha in television programmes. If the party has given a thought to the problem, it’s not visible yet. |
